A little history about STROPT…
From a background working with wood and using leather strops to maintain the sharpness of our chisels, we discovered that with the application of water, vegetable tanned leather was really effective at cleaning, realigning and honing the blades on modern disposable razors. We found this saved a small fortune on expensive replacement blades and made shaving a much smoother and more pleasurable experience.
Armed with this information, we developed a small handheld strop in 2018, called it the ‘Razor Honing Pad‘ and started selling them through our own website, independent retailers and artisan markets. We have exhibited at Covent Garden, Wells, The Frome Independent, Bath Artisan, Exeter Christmas Market and the excellent Winchester Christmas Market – acknowledged as one of the finest Christmas Markets in Europe! But that’s history.
In 2020, momentum stalled due to the global pandemic but we expanded our range to include razor strops such as hanging strops or belt strops for straight razors, paddle strops for knives and straight razors, bench strops for carpentry tools such as chisels or plane irons and kitchen knives.
In 2021, we started adding to our range of associated shaving products – safety razors, shaving soaps, shaving bowls/dishes and shaving brushes some of which we make ourselves with the help of a master woodturner and others which are bought in from renowned makers.
In 2022, we developed a range of Beard Care products based around an incredibly hydrating and conditioning blend of Argan Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Jojoba Oil and are proud to introduce our Nourishing Beard Oil, Beard Balm and Moustache Wax.
So, if you use a modern razor and love how it works but hate how quickly it needs new expensive blades, consider one of our Razor Honing Pads. If you want to continue wet shaving but find that it irritates your skin or wish to return to a more traditional way of doing things, consider one of our excellent safety razors from Merkur or timeless straight razors from Dovo and Böker – all from Solingen in Germany, known as the ‘City of Blades’. We have great shaving soaps from Mitchells Wool Fat and D R Harris and superb shaving brushes. If keeping a beard is your thing and you want to nourish and soften it (and the underlying skin) and tame those scratchy and unruly hairs, then get yourself some of our finest beard oil, beard balm or moustache wax. If you use a straight razor, work with chisels, planes or knives then consider one of our fantastic strops. All handmade in the UK!
My Dad bought me one of these last Christmas and it's saved me a small fortune. I shave 3/4 times a week with a Gillette Fusion razor and the cartridges are not cheap. However, using the strop has extended the life of each blade substantially. In fact, one blade lasted so long the casing fell to bits before it even went blunt! So, thanks to Dad and Stropt I'm saving money......and the planet!!
